NEDBANK Cup finalists, Kaizer Chiefs, have given an update on the extent of Kabelo Mahlasela injury.
The 28-year-old midfielder from Sebokeng had to be replaced by Dumisani Zuma after he was stamped on during their victorious Nedbank Cup semi-final against Chippa United in Port Elizabeth on Saturday.
Chiefs pushed their way to the 18 May final with a 4-2 win against Clinton Larsen's Chippa.
The win has given hope that Chiefs might end their four year trophy drought, which has been a bitter pill to swallow for their hordes of supporters.
And now their hope is that Ernst Middendorp can lead them to nearest well to quench their trophy thirst, especially after it because mathematically clear that they are out of the PSL title race.
The Nedbank Cup remains their only hope to solicit some pride this season.
According to Chiefs in a statement, Mahlasela's injury saw the stud that stamped on his foot "caused a vein to open".
"It caused severe bleeding and he wasn’t able to take weight on the foot. An x-ray revealed no fracture," said Amakhosi who are gearing up for their next Absa Premiership match against Golden Arrows at FNB Stadium on Tuesday night.
It goes without saying that Mahlasela might be given a break from this match to recover from the nasty challenge.
His forced substitute, Zuma, made in impact in the game and scored the opener, followed by birthday boy, Dax Andrianarimanana, Bernard Parker and Khaba Billiant drilled in the last nail into Chippa's coffin.
