MARITZBURG United made a shock announcement on the Premier Soccer League deadline day.
The mid-season window period was closed on Monday night and Maritzburg were among the clubs that made last-minute signings.
They confirmed the signing of Kaizer Chiefs striker Keletso Sifama on a loan deal until the end of the season.
In what came as a shocking move, the club further announced the release of former Chiefs midfielder Keagan Buchanan and Pogiso Sanoka who parted ways with the club by mutual consent.
"We would like to thanks Pogiso and Keagan for their services to the club over the past couple of seasons," said the club chairman Farook Kadodia.
"They both made valuable contributions for which we are grateful. We wish both players all the best for future careers."
Buchanan exit came as a huge shock as the player has been one of the star performers besides the club struggling to get points this season.
In total Maritzburg lost three players in the January transfer window, Buchanan, Sanoka and Rushine De Reuck who joined Mamelodi Sundowns.
The club also confirmed the signings of German goalkeeper Marcel Engelhardt and Dusan Stevic, a defender from Serbia.
They also promoted three young players (Asanda Buthelezi, Muzomuhle Ngwane and Phiwayinkosi Zuma) from the DStv Diski Challenge team.
