PENCILS have been sharpened!Seat belts have been tightened for the two mouth-watering boxing extravaganzas to take place over the weekend.
Kick-starting a busy boxing weekend will be a seven bout tournament presented by Golden Gloves at Emperors Palace tomorrow night.
Topping the bill will be the IBO world cruiserweight championship between defending champion Kevin Lerena and Artur Mann.
On Sunday junior bantamweight fierce rivalry between two local boxing prospects Sikho “Sequence” Nqothole and Sabelo “The Saints” Ngebiyana will be revived when the two cross swords in a grudge rematch.
Two vacant titles, South African and Legend Boxing Foundation (LBF), will be the bone of contention between the fighters.
The cross-town rivals are meeting for the second time.
In their previous clash Ngebiyana gave Nqothole his first taste of defeat and annexed his WBA Pan African crown.
Ngebiyana, who hails from Western Cape, scored points victory against his arch-rival.
This grudge rematch is promising to be an exciting affair as the pair is baying for each other’s blood.
Nqothole’s mentor Alan Toweel says his charge has been hard at training preparing this fight and they are expecting different results this time around.
“Sikho has been working extreme hard at training. We are going down to East London for revenge.
This time around we are expecting different results,” said Toweel. On the main supporting bout it will be “experience versus young blood” when veteran fighter Ali Funeka trades leather with young prospect Uyanda Nogogo.
Meanwhile, the two-time Boxing South Africa’s (BSA) female fighter of the year Bukiwe “Anaconda” Nonina has signed a sponsorship deal with branding company Doceli Designs. She will be a brand ambassador for the Braamfontein-based company.
“I’m happy with the partnership with Doceli Designs and hoping to achieve more with them. It has been a challenge when I’m preparing for the fight because pay I have to be on diet,” she said. An equally elated Leo Nyawo from Doceli Designs said they are ready to grow their brand together with the ring queen.
