AmaZulu coach Benni McCarthy is hoping to end the club’s frustrating goal drought during the Fifa international break.

The former Orlando Pirates striker has welcomed Nigerian striker Lukman Abegunrin for assessment.

The 27-year-old Abegunrin was recently playing for India Premier League side Real Kashmir where he scored six goals in 14 matches.

McCarthy confirmed last week he’s looking for a centre forward and hoping to bring in a striker during the international break.

Abegunrin, before his short stint in India, previously played for Varzim SC in Portugal.

McCarthy is frustrated after his side are without a win in three matches played in all competitions this season.

He has also complained about the lack of depth in his squad as some of the players have been out with medical issues and others with injuries.

McCarthy is missing injured star forward Augustine Mulenga and winger Thabo Qalinge.

AmaZulu drew 0-0 against Swallows FC in their DStv Premiership match at Jonsson Kings Park Stadium last Wednesday.

They were beaten 1-0 by champions Mamelodi Sundowns in the opening league fixtures.

And lost 2-1 to Cape Town in the quarterfinals of the MTN8.

Usuthu, having surprised many last season by breaking plenty of records to finish as the runners up to Sundowns are expected to up the ante again soon, as they will participate in the Caf Champions League early next month.
