BAROKA FC have sacked their assistant coach, Bushy Moloi, who also acted as their Multichoice Diski Challenge (MDC) team coach.

Moloi’s contract with the club was not renewed after chairman Khurishi Mphahlele realised that their MDC coach was ignoring his work and was more focused on the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) team in Pretoria.

Moloi rose to fame back in 2017 with TUT when he led them to the USSA Football Club Championship victory where he won the top accolade as Coach of the Tournament.

Last year he won the Varsity Football competition, which was a year after they finished as runners-up when they lost to UP-Tuks in the final.

Mphahlele told SunSport yesterday that they had to release him to focus more on his TUT responsibilities “as my team was suffering because of absenteeism”.

“We cannot keep him,” a somewhat frustrated Mphahlele said.

“He was not focussed on my team. We sat with him and explained everything to him the way the team is battling under him. He would miss the whole week’s training and pitch up only on match day.

“This is what led to our decision not to renew his contract with us. Our boys were suffering as he was not devoted to his job. He spent much time with TUT than us.”

Baroka’s development coach, Job Maphuthi will take over the reins of their reverse side, and will be assisted by Mathari Mothupa, as well as their other coaches in the lower leagues.

Moloi was part of the team that won the Telkom Knockout last year, along with head coach Wedson Nyirenda, when they shocked Orlando Pirates in the final.

Baroka will host Bloemfontein Celtic this weekend at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.
