CLUBLESS Joseph “Tight” Molangoane has backed himself to recover his best form and deliver the goods that saw him get signed by Kaizer Chiefs.
Molangoane, along with Kabelo Mahlasela, were released by Chiefs after the Soweto giants did not renew their contracts that expired last month. He is now one of many players in the PSL who are on the lookout for future employment ahead of next season.
The 32-year-old, who didn’t play a single match for the Absa Premiership leaders this term before the season was suspended in March due to Covid-19, revealed he has overcome the broken foot he suffered in 2018 and which flared up again last year.
Molangoane broke his foot in the MTN8 quarter-final match against Free State Stars at FNB Stadium in August 2018.
Chiefs at the time declared his season was over after the severity of the injury was diagnosed.
Miraculously, Molangoane recovered eight months later.
He returned in April last year, coming on as a substitute against Golden Arrows at FNB Stadium.
However, the injury recurred at training which saw him unable to feature in any of the matches before Amakhosi released him. “I’m 100% fine and I can give twice as much,” Molangoane assured.
“I’m dying to be back on the field and play football.
“I still have confidence and mentally I’m good. Now it’s just to wait for this season to be completed and see what the future holds.”
A fully fit Tight can be a useful tool both in defence and attack.
This was evident in the 2017-18 season under coach Steve Komphela.
Molangoane, whose only trophy in the PSL is the Nedbank Cup with Orlando Pirates in 2013-14 season, was keen to bow out in style at Chiefs, but he has accepted the club’s decision.
“It is part of football life, but I’m fine with it,” he said.
Now that he’s a free agent, Molangoane hinted that there are few clubs who have approached him, but didn’t divulge their identity.
“There have been a few clubs, but I don’t want to talk on their behalf,” he said.
