THE 2017/18 MultiChoice Diski Challenge title could be decided today!
After a tough tussle in the past five months, where youngsters gave their best with the hopes of winning the reserve league title, which is accompanied by a trip to Spain next month, Golden Arrows could walk away with this season’s amazing prizes.
The Diski Challenge season comes to an end next Sunday, but after an impressive run in the past 13 games, Arrows could wrap things up today and become the new champions.
The KwaZulu-Natal-based outfit lock horns with Orlando Pirates in a highly anticipated match of the weekend at Tembisa’s Makhulong Stadium today.
Kick off at 12pm.
Maximum points will see them clinching the title for the second time in three seasons.
So far, Arrows have accumulated 29 points and a win will see them reaching a number of 32 points which no other team that will be able to reach.
They will become the first team to ever win this competition twice since it was established in 2014, after failing to defend it last season.
But this season Abafana Bes’thende coach, Vusumuzi Vilakazi, managed to reinstall their spark by releasing some players to National First Division clubs, while others were promoted to the first team to make space for youngsters such as Siboniso Conco, who has been marvellous to watch this season.
Arrows captain Nkosinathi Sibiya believes the trip to Spain was also a huge motivation to them.
“Last season there was no hunger.
“We struggled most of the time but this time around the coach added new players from the Under-19 team and we did well.
“The fact that this year’s winners are not going to Netherlands but Spain also motivated us because we all want to go to Spain,” said Sibiya.
Last season’s runner-up Bloemfontein Celtic could finish in position two for the second time in a row.
