Bafana Bafana goalkeeper coach Andre Arendse says there is very little separating Ronwen Williams and Darren Keet as they continue to push for a starting place against Libya.
Bafana take on the Mediterranean Knights in a crucial Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifier in Sfax, Tunisia on Sunday.
The match will be played at the Stade Taïeb Mhiri and is set to kick-off at 7pm (SA time).
The two sides played out to a dull goalless draw in the first game at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban last year.
South Africa are second in Group E behind Nigeria who have already qualified, they need a draw to join the Super Eagles in the Afcon tournament set to be staged in Egypt this year.
The question on almost every South African’s mind heading into this do-or-die clash is who will start in goal for Bafana?
With regular number one Itumeleng Khune out with a shoulder injury, Coach Stuart Baxter will have to go with either Williams or Keet with Bruce Bvuma providing cover for the two goalies.
Arendse, who represented Mzansi 67 times in goal, said selecting the starting keeper was proving to be a difficult decision given how close they are.
It is a straight shootout between SuperSport United’s Williams and Bidvest Wits’ Keet for the starting berth.
“We needed to give them this week’s training because they were so close,” said Arendse.
“We will also combine that with the opposition, where they are strong, how they set up, so that too will influence not only the goalkeeper, but the starting eleven as well.
“There are certain areas where we could say one is little bit ahead of the other one, for example Darren is massive when it comes to aerial ability but Ronwen is a great shot-stopper.
“Its evenly contested, it is going to possibly go down to the last training session.”
