AJAX CAPE TOWN star midfielder Grant Margeman is adamant their shaky start in the National First Division (NFD) won’t determine their final results come end of the season.
After keeping well-experienced coach Muhsin Ertugral and the core of the players when Ajax got relegated to the NFD at the end of last season, many thought the Urban Warriors would have it easy with the experience they have in the team.
But after the seven games played so far, the Capetonians have been struggling to maintain consistency.
They started the season with a convincing 2-1 victory over Jomo Cosmos in their opening match. Now after just six games they’ve managed to gather 13 points from four victories, one draw and two defeats.
Magerman (20), who’s one of the highly-rated youngsters in South African football circles following his breakthrough into the senior ranks a couple of seasons ago, says there are still a few aspects of their game that needs to be improved in order to produce the best performance in the NFD.
“This is not the start of the season we wanted, but it’s better than not getting any points,” said Margeman.
“We’re still adjusting to the league and most of the players are now understanding our coach Muhsin better than last season when he arrived.”
He added: “What I have noticed in the NFD is that getting early goals increases chances of winning matches, so we’ll have to master that when we are playing away.”
