ROGER de Sa is set to be unveiled as the new club head coach of Maritzburg United today.
The Team of Choice will be making the official announcement at their home base of Harry Gwala Stadium, according to a statement released today.
Since Ernst Middendorp’s departure in November, Maritzburg have been under the temporary tutelage of Fadlu Davids but have now settled on De Sa to lead the side forward.
Since leaving Ajax Cape Town earlier in the season, De Sa has been touted as a potential candidate to fill many coaching vacancies.
Most recently he was said to have been on the radar of Safa as the association looks to find a replacement for Ephraim “Shakes” Mashaba at the helm of Bafana Bafana.
“Roger de Sa, as I’m speaking to you, will be unveiled as the coach by the club tomorrow,” said our source.
“Certain things will remain the same. Fadlu Davids will be his assistant coach, while his brother Mahier will remain as second assistant. Arthur Bartman will remain the goalkeeper coach.”
De Sa, who has apparently already started training the team for the second half of the season, will oversee his first match in charge of the club against Polokwane City at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on 8 February.
Maritzburg boss Farook Kadodia told SunSport that they had to follow protocol in appointing De Sa.
“We are just waiting for Roger to sign the offer then the whole thing will be finalised,” he told SunSport.
“Once we get him he can take charge of team training sessions, but first we will officially parade him in front of the players and media. I have a good feeling that he will sign, as we are not only the only ones interested in him.”
