FREE State Stars veteran midfielder and captain Paulus Masehe is contemplating retiring at the end of this season.

The 34-year-old told SunSport yesterday that he would sit down with the Ea Lla Koto management to decide his future.

The Qwa-Qwa born player has been playing in the top flight for more than a decade.

“This is a decision I cannot make alone,” he said. “We will sit down with club management at the end of the season and decide what the future holds for me.

“I still enjoy playing football and want to help the team achieve their goals. But there is a time when this kind of decision needs to be made. Let’s wait and see at the end of the season.”

Despite being 34, the former Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns star has been a pillar of strength at Stars.

Ea Lla Koto face Ajax Cape Town in their next league match at Goble Stadium on Wednesday (7.30pm). And Masehe has warned his teammates not to underestimate the inconsistent Urban Warriors.

Stars are currently seventh in the league standings with seven points from six games, while Ajax are 13th with five points from same number of matches.

Ajax come into this clash without a win in either of their past two league games, drawing 1-1 with Baroka FC and losing 2-0 to Cape Town FC in the Cape derby before the league went on a two-week Fifa break.

Stars head into this fixture brimming with confidence after two consecutive wins, against Maritzburg United and Polokwane City respectively.

“We should not underestimate them and be overconfident,” Masehe said. “Ajax have had mixed results so far this season and I am certain they’re not coming here to relax. They are coming to fight.

“But I am optimistic that we can get maximum points. This two-week break has helped us big time and we are ready for them.”
