CHIPPA United ended a seven-game winless run in the Absa Premiership with a narrow 1-0 victory over high-flying Free State Stars on Saturday afternoon.

Abel Mabaso scored the only goal that decided the winner of the match at Sisa Dukashe Stadium on Saturday.

The victory helped the Chilli Boys get their revenge over Ea Lla Koto, who won the Nedbank Cup clash between the two club last weekend.

The Chilli Boys dominated possession in the first quarter of the half, although they were let down by their decision-making in the final third.

Stars, meanwhile, were mainly playing on the counter as the hosts enjoyed most of the possession, but both goalkeepers were largely untested.

As a result, the sides went into half-time break scoreless.

Two minutes into the second half, Mabaso broke the deadlock for the hosts as he fired home a low effort from close range to make it 1-0.

Luc Eymael's Stars pushed for an equaliser in the closing stages but Chippa defence solid to secure the victory.

Stars miss the chance to reclaim third spot, while Ea Lla Koto eased their relegation fears.
