The #AmINext campaign must be used positively.
It must not be used by bitter ex-lovers to ruin the image of others.
It’s good for women to express their concerns about their safety, abuse and rape through the campaign.
People must be careful what they post on Twitter.
Some women have been let down by the police, but please be careful when naming others without proof.
That is because you can be sued for naming and shaming alleged rapists on Twitter, which could backfire on you and lead to prosecution.
Those who are accused have every right to charge you with criminal defamation.
The standard rules that apply in the real world apply on social media platforms, too.
Remember, legal action can be taken against you for retweeting posts. People need to understand that retweeting something and then claiming it was not an endorsement, is not a legal defence.
People mustn’t use Twitter to post negative things, because it can result in those people facing harassment or abuse on a daily basis.
False accusers are contributing to the desensitisation of rape in the country.
Just make sure you know your story before naming and shaming alleged rapists.
Unless you can prove that something is true, you can be sued for defamation and a charge of crimen injuria can be laid against you.
