How many lives have to be lost before Uber and metered taxi drivers stop their endless war?
Driving for Uber has become a deadly profession.
Reports of attacks on drivers have been all over the news. The violence has reached crisis level.
The drivers are in danger‚ but it seems Uber does not care about their safety.
The company is doing nothing, even though they are aware of the violence directed towards their employees.
Metered taxi drivers need to accept change.
In the past they had no competition, and this made them think they owned the streets of South
Africa.
The only way to end this senseless violence is for police to start making arrests.
So many people have died, yet no one has been arrested or prosecuted. The police should start taking cases involving Uber drivers seriously.
It’s important for Police Minister Fikile Mbalula, Transport Minister Joe Maswanganyi, as well as Uber and metered taxi drivers,
to meet urgently and find a solution before many more lives are lost.
It’s time for all the parties involved to act now.
Uber drivers need the support of the police to put an end to this war.
