There is a saying that women who work hard under immense pressure and still triumph are like roses that grow in cement.
Faith Sibeko is such a rose.
She won the woman of the year award at this year’s gsport awards ceremony.
She lives in Ga-Rankuwa, Tshwane and has dedicated her life to sport.
She founded the non-profit organisation Faith and Hope Foundation that seeks to help young people excel in different sporting codes and keep them from using drugs.
I would like to commend Faith for the part she continues to play in changing the complexion of Ga-Rankuwa.
It is rare to find a woman running junior and senior divisions for soccer, netball, softball and cultural group teams at once. The effort she puts into everything she does is amazing.
I remember after she won the gsport award in August she did an interview with a radio station in Soshanguve. She spoke about her success and her drive to achieve excellence at all times.
She mentioned Carol Tshabalala, Cynthia Tshaka and Irvin Khoza as some of the key players in her life.
The interview was inspiring. Faith said she started her foundation with no cash, but today she and her foundation are the face of sport in Ga-Rankuwa.
I hope people from surrounding areas will learn a thing or two from her so that we can have a better South Africa that is proud of itself.
