ALWAYS WATCH YOUR BACK AT ATMs

accreditation

It’s worrying that there are thugs who target people at ATMs.

My biggest concern is that even though we all know about card scammers, many of us still get robbed at ATMs and shops when we swipe our debit or credit cards.

Thieves who get hold of your credit or debit card details can cost you thousands of rands.

It’s advisable not to let anybody distract you when you are using an ATM. People should also have an idea how to operate the machines.

Don’t ask strangers to help you. Those who are still learning how to use one must ensure they are assisted by bank workers.

They must be careful not to give their secret pin code to anyone, including the bank staff.

They must always be alert when they withdraw cash.

And if anyone stands too close to you after you have already inserted your card, rather cancel the transaction.

When you pay for your goods and services with the card, don’t lose sight of it.

Make sure your bank card is always in a safe place. Never leave your card lying around anywhere, not even at home.

If your card is missing, report it immediately so the bank can stop it.
