Yaya Toure feels he is still capable of playing in the Premier League as he returns to England after a short stay in Greece.

The 35-year-old re-joined former side Olympiakos in September after eight seasons and three league titles with Manchester City, having also starred for Barcelona and the Ivory Coast.

Toure left Olympiakos 'by mutual agreement' on Tuesday having played five time - with his high wages, even on a pay-as-you-play deal seemingly proving too much for the Greek Super League club.

With his family in London, it is believed Toure will look for a local club.

A statement from Olympiakos said: "Yaya is and remains an important member of the Olympiakos family, who has marked a central part of the history of the club. Olympiakos would like to thank him for everything he has offered to the club.

"Yaya will remain deeply devoted to the club and wishes to Olympiakos lots of success. Yaya is leaving as a friend and the doors at Olympiakos will always be open for him. Our paths will surely cross again."

Toure said: "To the Olympiacos fans. I came back for you. I had a vision and wanted to win trophies for you," Toure posted on Wednesday.

"Sadly, it has not worked out. But I move on with love in my heart for you all. You have always encouraged me and stood by me.

"But now it is time for a new challenge. My love for football still burns strong."
