THE Hawks in Pietermaritzburg arrested a 39-year-old woman on Wednesday, 15 September for conspiracy to commit murder.

According to Captain Simphiwe Mhlongo, the cops received information about a wife who allegedly hired a hitman to kill her husband in the Estcourt area.

“It’s alleged that the couple was in the process of filing divorce papers when she decided to kill him.

“In November 2020, the wife allegedly bought a car and handed it over to the hired hitman as payment,” Mhlongo said.

It is reported that when the hitman failed to execute the hit, the woman demanded the vehicle back to give it to another hitman.

“The matter was reported to the Hawks members and an intensive investigation was conducted. She was then arrested and charged accordingly,” Mhlongo added.

The woman appeared in the Estcourt Magistrates Court on Wednesday, 15 September and was kept in jail.

The case was postponed to 21 September.
