POLICE paid a surprise visit to Mzuvele High School on Friday.

They arrived at the school in KwaMashu J section, north of Durban, with Metro cops, CPF members and officials from the Community Safety Department.

The visit came a day after a pupil was stabbed outside the school. Earlier this year, a fight between pupils left a boy with stab wounds.

A pupil said she was happy cops visited the school.

“A lot of pupils come with dagga and cigarettes. They sometimes carry knives and other weapons,” she said.

Resident Nhlanhla Mhlongo (49) said cops should conduct such searches regularly.

“This will bring discipline and respect to schools,” Nhlanhla said.

Police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Thulani Zwane said no case was opened regarding the recent stabbing incident. “Police went to the school to search for any dangerous weapons as part of our school safety campaign,” he said.
