KHOISAN leader Chief Khoisan SA and his people won’t budge!
“They can come with all their tricks, but we’re not going anywhere!” he told Daily Sun.
He said they were not worried about being moved but feared their tents would tear if tampered with.
He said they were told by the department of public works last week that they would be moved as the department wanted to clean the grass.
“Cutting and cleaning grass was just an excuse to move us,” he said.
The chief said they were not prepared to move unless at least five new tents were erected on the other side of the Mandela statue.
“We love to live close to Nelson Mandela’s statue. He’s the father of our democracy.”
He said their demand that President Cyril Ramaphosa address them still stood.
“We’re not leaving until he comes. The government’s failed us,” said the chief.
He said they wanted a resolution of the land and minerals issue, as well as their share of the country’s wealth.
He said they’d resist any force used against them. At the moment they are 10 Khoisan people at the Union Buildings. They have been there since 30 November.
Public works spokesman Zara Nicholson didn’t know about the allegations of moving the Khoisan.
“I’ll have to inquire first before we can comment,” he said.
