THE Mthiyane family is angry with cops.

They claimed cops have not been of any help since Simenyiwe (28), Khanyisani (16) and Junior Mthiyane (14) from eMabuyeni Village in Mthunzini, northern KZN, drowned on Wednesday.

Khanyisani’s body was found on the beach on Friday but the other two were still missing. Family member Govender Mthiyane (32) told Daily Sun the three went to the beach with other family members S’bahle (16) and Ndabenhle (11).

“Simenyiwe, Khanyisani, Junior and S’bahle went into the water, while Ndabenhle remained on the beach. While the four were standing knee-deep in water, they were washed into the sea.

S’bahle managed to save himself but the others weren’t so lucky.

He said cops were called but the sea was too rough for divers to search.

“The next day they told us divers were coming but we never saw them. The same thing happened on Friday.”

He said Khanyisani’s body was spotted by family members camping at the scene.

Captain Nqobile Gwala said an inquest docket was opened.

“The claims aren’t true. Searches have been conducted since the drowning and are still ongoing.”
