BOIKHUTSO Primary School in Indermark Village in Senwabarwana, Limpopo, has been operating without proper infrastructure for years.
The school’s SGB chairwoman Hilda Ramokotjo told Daily Sun the school has been without toilets for years.
“We’re afraid these conditions will affect our pupils’ performance and the blame will fall on innocent teachers,” she said.
They don’t want mobile toilets.
“We’ve witnessed pupils being injured at school and we don’t want that here,” she said.
She said lack of proper toilets could lead to absenteeism.
Parent Jacob Monama (42) said it shocked them that their children go to a school that doesn’t have proper toilets.
“Some of our children are still young. We feel such holes could expose them to danger,” said Monama.
“We urge the department to act quickly before we lose lives.”
Education spokeswoman Tidimalo Chuene said the school was identified last year to have challenges.
“The school is provided with chemical mobile toilets for use as a temporary measure while waiting for construction of new ablution facilities,” said Chuene.
Eight mobile toilets will be delivered tomorrow.
“The school is in the department’s list of infrastructure development projects,” she said.
