Mzansi will hold local government elections on 1 November.

During the election season, political parties move from town to town selling their manifestos to the public as they canvas for votes.

While canvassing is not a sin, it’s very disturbing to listen to promises that are not realistic.

Political parties should respect people enough to know that lies have short legs and have a way of coming back to haunt them.

Political manifestos must be centred around people’s will and aspirations.

Parties shouldn’t push what they think is better for people.

Consultations with stakeholders will help them understand what people really need.

Most political leaders are out of the touch with communities’ needs.

Voters need to remember those who have been with them during good and bad days when they cast their votes.
