THE youth of Dingleydale Village outside Thulamahashe, near Bushbuckridge in Mpumalanga, are spreading awareness in their community.
The Dingleydale Youth & Childline Centre, in partnership with Mhala police, health organisations and the Department of Social Development, organised a health dialogue.
The event, held to alert residents about HIV/Aids and TB,was held at the All Stars Sports Ground in Dingleydale Village on Tuesday.
Ernest Nkanyana, the centre manager, said they hosted talks with residents every year during the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children Abuse.

Ernest said they invited health organisations to educate residents about different illnesses and how to prevent or cure them.
“We have thousands of people who’re affected by HIV/Aids and TB.
“As a youth centre, we feel it’s our duty to look for help so we can be able to tackle this problem.”
“In our village we also experience a lot of rape and abuse of women but parents opt not to report such cases at our police stations. We want to tell elders that crime must be handled by cops not their induna’s”.

Sergeant Abigail Nxumalo urged residents to report any type of abuse.
She said: “If violence occurs within the family, it must be reported, rather than waiting until someone loses their life.”
Solly Mashego (83) said he learnt a lot and would share the message with others.
“I plead with the health department to increase staff at our local clinic so we can be assisted faster,” he said.
