Students at the University of Venda and Vhembe TVET College can now breathe a sigh of relief after three suspects who were allegedly terrorising them were arrested.

STUDENTS will finally sleep peacefully.

For years University of Venda students and those at Vhembe TVET College, outside Thohoyandou in Limpopo, have been living in fear of being raped or robbed.

On Wednesday, cops finally arrested three suspects aged between 20 and 33 and linked to more than 40 cases including rape, robbery and burglary.

The three are suspected to be part of a gang that’s been terrorising students at the two institutions’ off-campus residences.

The suspects were arrested after community members gave police a tip-off that they were involved in an armed robbery in January.

Limpopo police spokesman Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe told Daily Sun the suspects were residents of Phiphidi and Vondo villages outside Thohoyandou.

They were arrested during an operation made up of the Vhembe district task team, Thohoyandou crime intelligence, Vhembe first responders, detectives and the tactical response team.

“They might still be linked to more cases as profiling is still under way,” he said.

“Police investigations are still continuing. They’re expected to appear in the Thohoyandou Magistrates Court soon.”

Tshepo Ramothokgwa (26) said he’d finally sleep peacefully.

“These people terrorised us a lot. Some students failed because their smartphones and laptops were stolen.

“Some girls dropped out as they couldn’t cope with the stress of being raped.”

Limpopo police commissioner Lieutenant-General Nneke Ledwaba praised the cops involved for doing excellent work.
