SHE dedicated 42 years of her life to changing and touching people’s lives.
Because of her dedication and big heart, Solani Mazibuko was declared Mother of the Nation.
Solani (71), director of Orlando Children’s Home, received the honour at the Miss SA pageant, held at the Sun Arena in Tshwane, on Friday.
This was after beauty pageant finalists Noluthando Bennett chose her as a role model.
Noluthando said about her nomination of gogo: “She is truly a mother of many, giving of herself and her time to help children who are in her care, who have been abandoned, who would otherwise be unloved and unwanted. She is my heroine.”
Speaking to Daily Sun, gogo Solani said she was doing God’s work, which was to love unconditionally.
“It warmed my heart to know people notice and appreciate what I’m doing. I consider it a privilege and honour to get this award from the pageant,” she said.
Gogo Solani said her goal was to shelter, protect and love the little ones until she could place them in caring homes.
She received R50 000 from one of the sponsors, LFP Group.
Last year, she was honoured by Gauteng Premier David Makhura.
