WHEN Donald Matlou’s uncle gave him two goats in 2014, he saw it as an opportunity to start a business.
He bought more animals and as they had kids, he sold them to make a living. He wanted to get a driver’s licence and improve his life.
He needed R10 00 to get a code 14 licence and planned to sell more goats.
But his dream was dashed when heartless thugs broke into his kraal on Thursday, 7 October and stole eight goats!
The 28-year-old from Makgao Park, outside Seshego in Limpopo, said he didn’t hear a thing as it was raining throughout the night.
“This is a huge setback for me. I’m depressed because I was really looking forward to getting a driver’s licence,” he told Daily Sun.
Donald said that it wasn’t the first time his goats were stolen.
“They first stole two goats in June after cutting my kraal’s fence.”
Donald said he suspected it was the same people who stole his goats on both occasions.
“I’m now left with five goats and I’m afraid they might come back and steal them too. I’ve lost R15 600.”
Donald pleaded with SunReaders to help him find his goats and bring the thieves to justice.
“I need help to get my goats back. The thugs must go to jail because I believe they’ll continue stealing our livestock,” he said.
Limpopo police spokesman Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said a case of livestock theft was opened.
“Investigations are underway but it will be difficult to trace the animals, as they were not branded.
“We urge livestock owners to always brand their livestock, so that it’s easy to identify them.”
