PUPILS were left traumatised after their fellow pupil was allegedly raped by a taxi driver while on her way to school on Tuesday 18 May.
They were also very upset when the cops took a long time to attend to the victim.
Pupils of Mapenane Secondary School in Ga-Rankuwa, Tshwane, said a matric girl was raped in the morning but cops only arrived on the scene at midday. They said it scared them that the matter was not treated as an emergency.
One of the pupils said watching her friend not receiving any medical help was traumatising.
The police apologised for the delay, saying the incident happened outside of their jurisdiction in Gauteng. A rape case was later registered and forwarded to the North West cops.
The police said the public would be updated as soon as the suspect was arrested.

Gauteng police spokesman Captain Mavela Masondo said a rape case was opened at Ga-Rankuwa cop shop and transferred to North West as the incident happened in Mmakau.
South African Taxi Association Gauteng spokesman Midday Mali said anyone accused of rape must be reported to the police.
“We always preach against gender-based violence. If one of our own is being accused of such a crime, they must face the full might of the law,” he said.
“We can’t have people scared to board taxis because we have rapist drivers.”
