A TAXI driver has been shot and killed along the N1 South near the Kranskop toll gate in Modimolle, Limpopo, on Tuesday, 2 December.

The driver of the minibus was on his way from Polokwane to Gauteng when he stopped at a One Stop Garage near the toll gate.

He, along with a passenger, allegedly stepped out of the minibus and went inside the garage kiosk.

Suddenly, when they returned to the minibus, two unknown suspects emerged and started shooting at the driver with a pistol and rifle, killing him instantly and injuring a female passenger.

Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe said the suspects fled the scene in a red Volkswagen Polo sedan with an unknown registration number.

He said the taxi driver was declared dead at the scene by paramedics and one female passenger suffered gunshot wounds and was treated at the scene.

“Police in Modimolle, under the Waterberg district, are now on a massive manhunt for the suspects involved in the brutal murder and attempted murder after a taxi driver was shot and killed at the One Stop Garage near the Kranskop toll gate, along the N1 South.

“The police were notified and reacted swiftly. Initial investigations and a manhunt then ensued, but there are no arrests yet. The identity of the deceased will be revealed once his family has been notified.”

Ngoepe told Daily Sun the motive behind the incident is not clear at this stage, but the taxi-related conflict can’t be ruled out although investigations are still continuing.
