Two people
in Mpumalanga sustained minor injuries after a hailstorm hit Makoko Village on
Thursday afternoon.
At least 100 homes were affected by the storm.
City of Mbombela executive mayor, Sibusiso Mathonsi visited the area on Friday.
He said the municipality has experienced a wave of storm damages in the area.
"The disaster management team from the municipality and the province is here. We are still awaiting other departments like social department,” said Mathonsi.
“What we are doing now is to collect data to see how much damage has been caused. We have two injured people who were taken to hospital and they were discharged," he said.
Mathonsi said so far, no fatalities have been recorded.
He said the municipality has identified a centre where matric pupils will be moved to, so that they can be able to continue writing their exams.
"When all the other relevant sectors have met, we will talk about what immediate relief we can do urgently," he said.
He further urged communities to be on high alert as more rain has been forecast.
"We are trying to communicate through our system when there will be heavy storms or rains. We are trying to move our people from the flood lines so that they can come to areas that are safer," he said.
