THE MKVA has come out in support of former North West premier Supra Mahumapelo, saying he’s been treated unfairly.
Their spokesman Carl Niehaus, who was born in Zeerust, said he sees the area as his home.
“As a member of the ANC for 42 years I’m a veteran and an NEC member of MKVA,” he said.
“I’m supporting Mahumapelo. I’m happy an appeal has been lodged because the ANC can’t afford to lose a comrade of his calibre and dedication.”
Niehaus said the step-aside resolutions had to be implemented in and even-handed way.
The resolution says all those with allegations and findings against them by legal institutions such as Chapter 9 institutions, and those who’ve been charged, must consider stepping aside.
He said to rewrite it to say all those who have charges against them must step aside is not a reflection of the resolution.
“What we see is that certain people are targeted and others are left off the hook,” said Niehaus.
“It’s important that the ANC must never do anything that is against the Constitution of the country.
Everyone is innocent until proven guilty by a court of law.”
Niehaus said the branches of the ANC have democratically voted and elected Ace Magashule to the position of ANC secretary-general.
“Only the branches of the ANC should be able to remove Magashule, and it should be a democratic process,” he said.
He said the national executive of the ANC had agreed that the party is divided.
“We’ve expressed our concern that the manner in which the stepping-aside resolution has been handled can cause more division and more factionalism.”
He said all resolutions should be given an equal value and implementation, especially the resolutions dealing with radical economic transformation.
