THE Sonqoba Simunye Men burial society from Duduza, on the East Rand, is one of the most successful burial societies.

The organisation was founded in 1999 with only eight members.

Today the membership has increased to 94.

Spokesman of the burial society, Mthetheleli Mini, said: “for the organisation to grow to such a huge membership it took them twenty years of making sure that“Discipline and order are maintained among the members.

“That includes being punctual, wearing proper uniform and paying monthly contributions on time.”

Meetings are held once a month at a house which was bought and renovated by the members.

The club house is also open for renting out to members of the community for their meetings and parties at a fee of R800 a day.

The club spends R5 000 once a month on catering and drinks on the day when members meet and hang out.

Enjoy themselves after the meeting, a contributoin of R400 from each member is debited to the clubs account and no member is allowed to bring cash on that day. They have also bought another house, which is used only for rental purposes.

Said Mthetheleli: “The reason we buy property is to rent it out, so we can generate more money.”
