A MAN was robbed in Doublom Crescent in Roosendaal, Cape Town on Tuesday, 30 November while delivering cigarettes.
Police spokesman Captain Frederick C van Wyk said the delivery van and an escort vehicle were approached by a white Quantum with an unknown registration number.
“It got between the two vehicles and stopped,” said Van Wyk.
He said nine unknown men got out and approached the driver of the panel van at gunpoint.
The driver of the escort vehicle was instructed to leave.
“The suspects took an undisclosed amount of cigarettes and fled the scene in the Quantum with the driver.
“No shots were fired and no injuries were sustained,” he said.
According to Van Wyk, the driver was dropped off in an unknown street unharmed.
A resident said he was going to the shop when he saw a speeding Quantum.
“It never crossed my mind that the people in the Quantum were criminals,” said the resident.
“It looks like they knew the vehicle will deliver at that particular time. There is no way it was a coincidence,” he said.
Van Wyk said Delft police were investigating a case of robbery.
