A woman has been sentenced for blowing the credit card of a PSL team doctor who was already dead.
Sowetan reports that Lesotho national Malibyane Maoeng (30) was sentenced to a total of 15 years by Benoni magistrate's court yesterday.
Highlands Park team doctor Godfrey Sankubele Dire (62), was found dead at the Sasolburg lodge on June 30 last year.
Sowetan had reported then that Maoeng was last seen at the lodge on the same day as the doctor.
She then drove the dead man’s Mercedes-Benz C250, while she knew that Dire was dead, and drove the car to Daveyton to her ex-boyfriend.
The crazy story surrounding the events resembles a low budget film centering completely on Maoeng’s actions.
Last year Dire’s daughter Nomava told Sowetan that cops found Maoeng in her flat in Benoni hiding inside the base of her bed.
She has not been charged with killing Dire as cops are awaiting a toxicology report on the cause of death.
Maoeng was sentenced to 13 years in prison for theft, fraud and possession of a stolen vehicle, and another two years for entering the country illegally and being in possession of an invalid passport.
She went on a spending spree with her dead lover’s credit card, buying a double-door fridge, a washing machine, a bed and a carpet totalling R21, 000.
His family received the notifications of the purchases made at East Rand mall the same day he died.
The court ruled that Maoeng showed no remorse and did not give her a lesser sentence stating that the charges were very serious.
Earlier in the trial last month, Sowetan reports that Maoeng said she had fraudulently signed as the dead man on all purchases because she was protecting his marriage.
"I was a side chick, so I didn't want to use my signature because I knew he would be in trouble," she said.
