THE North Gauteng High Court has issued warrants for the arrest of fugitives Shepherd Bushiri and his wife Mary Bushiri, who broke bail conditions and fled to Malawi several days ago.
This was announced by Hawks spokeswoman Colonel Katlego Mogale.
She said the high court issued the warrants on Tuesday, 17 November.
This is based on their first case that the couple faces, for which they were out on R100 000 after their arrest last February.
The Bushiris are facing charges of fraud and money laundering.
It’s understood that the Bushiris have handed themselves over to the Malawian authorities.
According to Mogale, at the time of their disappearance, the Bushiris had posted bail of R100 000 each and were required to regularly present themselves to authorities as part of complying with their bail conditions.
“They were due to report to court in January 2021. During Tuesday’s court proceedings, the matter was postponed to 7 December, 2020 for the formal withdrawal of bail and forfeiture of the bail deposit,” she said.
Mogale said South Africa has initiated legal proceedings to secure the extradition of the fugitives.
