SHE helps people in her indumba during the day and is focused on her books at night.

And Sangoma Puleng Mofokeng (43) has learnt to juggle her calling and her studies. Mofokeng, who is doing grade 11, said she was working hard to pass her exams.

She said last year was a bit challenging due to Covid-19 as they were not in class most of the time.

“I didn’t pass all of my subjects, but this year I’m working hard to pass all of them,” she said.

She said she registered at night school last year.

“I enrolled for life orientation, tourism, English, business studies and maths literacy,” she said.

Mofokeng said she passed some subjects, but failed maths literacy and tourism. This year, she is repeating the subjects she failed and history as her sixth subject.

The ambitious sangoma from Bekkersdal said she intended to further her studies to become a fashion designer.

“I’m not going to give up.”

She said she went to initiation school in June last year.

“My ancestors are motivating me to study further,” she said.

Mofokeng, who does not have kids, said she went to thwasa in Zandspruit and was supposed to spend nine months there, but completed her training in four months.

“My consultation is R150 and I specialise in helping couples spice up their sex lives, track stolen cars, treat different diseases and chase away evil spirits. Many men often complain about low sex performance and I also help there by prescribing relevant muthi,” she said.
