ROSEMARY Ndlovu (43) carefully planned the murder of her six relatives – and she did it for insurance payouts.
These were the words of prosecutor Riana Williams during closing arguments in the High Court in Palm Ridge, Ekurhuleni on Thursday, 14 October.
Williams said the former Tembisa cop was always the first person to report her relatives as missing.
“Everybody disappeared mysteriously and the accused was always the first one to realise they were missing and reported them.”
Izangoma who checked the bones about Rosemary said except for the insurance, it was also for ukuthwala.
Gogo Mamtolo Mangena said: “This is a case of ukuthwala and using family and friends as a sacrifice.”
Gogo Mamtolo said she will be jailed, but probably not for long.
“However, if she is kept in jail cells for long, she might die because she won’t have any blood to spill.”
Gogo Grace Ndlovu said: “Her case has been filled with doubts because of what she did.
“She will be jailed but it doesn’t appear for long because uthwele.”
Sangoma Nzama Maluleke said: “She has a very slim chance of ever leaving prison because the evidence is overwhelming. And the people she killed want justice, they are fighting from beyond their grave.”
Williams added in her closing arguments that Ndlovu killed her sister Audrey Somisa, her nephew Brilliant Mashego, her niece Zanele Motha, her nephew Mayeni Mashaba, her cousin Witness Homu and her boyfriend Maurice Mabasa, to cash in on their life and funeral policies.
“The accused reported the missing individuals as soon as possible and death claims were submitted immediately,” she said. Among the attempted murder cases she is accused of is that of her sister Joyce Ndlovu and her five children, as well as her 80-year-old mum Maria Mushwana.
She was bust on 7 March 2018 after an undercover cop recorded her telling a hitmen how to kill Joyce and her kids.
She received 28 insurance payouts totalling R1,4 million from the claims.
Williams said state witnesses were reliable, credible and corroborated one another. On the other hand she described Ndlovu as an evasive and argumentative witness and asked the court to jail her.
She said the court should reject Rosemary’s mother Mushwana’s evidence, the only witness who testified in her defence.
The matter was postponed to 22 October for judgment.
She was remanded to Kgosi Mampuru II Correctional Centre.
