WHEN the woman went to the river with her pastor on Tuesday, she had no idea she would meet her Maker.

Cops were called to the scene at Fun Valley near Lenasia, Joburg, after the pair drowned.

On Wednesday they had only found the body of the pastor.

A pastor from Lehae, not far from where the drowning happened, told Daily Sun he used the same river to baptise church members.

“Baptism is something most churches do and the deeper the dam or river, the better the baptism,” he said.

The pastor said it was sad to see people dying while doing the Lord’s work.

“We are in the process of finding the woman. We can’t say she is dead. We will only comment once she has been found.”

“We were also planning to go to the river this Sunday for a baptism, but I’m scared now,” he said.

Lehae community leader Linda Zwane said: “We have always suspected there’s something not right with the river and warned people not to go there, but they never listen.”

He said if people really wanted to do baptisms in the river, they should go in groups so they could help each other.

Captain Kay Makhubele said the pastor’s body was found on Wednesday.

“We are in the process of finding the woman. We can’t say she is dead. We will only comment once she has been found.”
