IT’S a dangerous stream and pedestrians are struggling to get to the other side!

“We need a bridge,” said residents of Lusaka and the RDP section in Mamelodi East, Tshwane.

They have tried to build a bridge with pipes and stones, but it gets swept away by the water during heavy rains.

They said the stream was dangerous and a bridge would help workers, pupils, children and residents.

Motorist Eric Ndou (27) said: “The water and rocks damage our cars. We really need a bridge.”

Resident Judas Khoza (45) told Daily Sun they have been complaining. “We’ve asked for a bridge, but nothing happened. Now we have given up,” he said.

Anelisile Mkhwanazi (32) said she crossed the stream every day to take a taxi in Pienaarspoort because she works in Pretoria East.

She said when it rained, they have to spend extra money to take another taxi to take them to work.

“We’ve been asking for a bridge for two years. A bridge will save us from a dangerous situation.”

Gogo Dorah Ndlovu (75) from Lusaka said: “When it rains, I struggle to visit my family in the extension and RDP side.”

Mahlohonolo Mogadima (10) said sometimes they fell into the stream when they go to school.

“When there is a bridge, children will be safe crossing the river,” she said.

Ward 10 councillor Morwangwato Mantjane said the City of Tshwane knew about the problem with the stream.

“We are still waiting for the bridge. The city has failed us.”
