JOY was the order of the day atCEGCUWANA Lower Primary School last Thursday.

Pupils and teachers at the school in KwaMkhiva Village, Ngqamakhwe, were happy to finally get new toilets.

They had been using old toilets that were in a bad state.

The six new toilets were unveiled by Eastern Cape Education MEC Fundile Gade.

Gade said they approached a construction company called Cemforce to build the toilets.

“It’s clear the backlogs we have need the intervention of private partnerships so we can fast track service delivery. We also donated shoes to the pupils. Our aim is to make the lives of these kids better,” he said.

Principal Andisa Dunjwa said their toilet situation was very bad.

“Teachers and pupils were at risk of falling into the toilets. It was difficult to use them. We are happy to get these toilets.”

SGB chairman Bonisile Mabhentsela said it was sad for kids to relieve themselves in the open as it put their safety at risk.
