THE Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) has launched an investigation after cops shot and killed an alleged drug dealer in Bloemfontein on Wednesday, 15 December.

Spokeswoman Grace Langa said the man allegedly set his pit bull dogs on the cops and pulled a toy gun as they were raiding his house.

News24 reported that members of the tactical response teams received information about an alleged drug dealer in Rocklands.

“Upon arrival, gates were locked, and they managed to gain entry through the neighbour’s yard. Upon entry, they were attacked by one [of the] pit bulls,” Langa said.

It is reported that the suspected dealer allegedly came out with three other dogs and set them on the officers.

“They threw a stun grenade at the dogs, but they kept coming towards them,” Langa said.

She said cops noticed that the suspect possessed what looked like a 9mm Z88 in his right hand. They then fired two rounds at him, and one round struck him in the chest.

“A toy gun was found at the crime scene next to the deceased,” she added.

Langa further said as the cops raided the house, they found eight crystal meth tablets, 31 Mandrax tablets, dagga and about R470 in cash.
