A WARDEN at Paxton Prison in Emalahleni, Mpumalanga was caught with drugs worth R1 million on Thursday, 11 November.

Brigadier Selvy Mohlala said an operation was conducted by cops at a house inside the prison premises.

“During the operation at the house of a 37-year-old female prison warden, cops discovered 249kg of crystal meth, nine half-moons of rocks, 1,5kg of heroine and 3,2g of rocks.

“Police also discovered an undisclosed amount of cash. They are investigating whether the drugs were sold to prisoners or elsewhere,” he said.

Mohlala said the suspect would appear in the Emalahleni Magistrates Court 12 November, on charges of dealing with drugs.

He said this had shocked provincial commissioner, Lieutenant-General Semakaleng Manamela, who said: “No one will be treated better than others. We are all equal before the law, and anyone found in contravention of the law would be arrested immediately.”
