HE was tired of flooding during the rainy season.
So he used the money meant to complete his house and built a bridge in his kasi in July.
Jeremiah Nemutudi is now a hero in his kasi of Itsani outside Thohoyandou, Limpopo.
The 46-year-old barber built a bridge that connects his village to Shayandima.
The bridge has changed the lives of motorists and pupils who couldn’t use the road when it rained.
Jeremiah told Daily Sun building the bridge was not an easy decision as his wife, Rejoyce, didn’t understand why he used money meant for their house to construct a bridge.
“The bridge was not an option but a must. We had nightmares of how to pass whenever the river was full.
“We were forced to venture into the water and it was a big challenge for me as I’d develop aching tonsils soon after that. I spent a lot of money on medication,” said Jeremiah.
He said the community suffered as people lost their lives after they were swept away by the flooding river.
“I was left with no option but to use the money for the house. This was not an easy decision, but I had to do it for the sake of myself, my family and the community.
Jeremiah told the People’s Paper that the project was not without challenges as some people were against it.
“But now everybody is enjoying a safe passage. I spent about R15 000 on cement, rocks, sand and hired a TLB to prepare the surface,” he said.
His good deeds attracted the attention of Tshisahulu senior traditional leader Chief Thivhulawi Makumbane, who showered him with accolades and full of support.
“This is a vision we should all support. The man sacrificed all for the benefit of the whole community. This is what we expect from our subjects as leaders and we encourage others to come up with developmental ideas in this village,” he said.
