WHEN people visit uShaka Marine World in Durban, they’re mostly interested in swimming and seeing the aquarium.

But when they pass a certain passage between the shops, they can’t help but stop and give all their attention to moving statues, Phiwe Hlengwa and Sphe Njemla. Phiwe is painted gold while Sphe is silver.

Tourist Fikile Danke (45) from Joburg said it was the first time he saw something like that.

“After I stood staring in fascinated for a few minutes, the statue started waving his hand and I was shocked,” he said.

When the kids saw the pair, some went near to feel if there was an invisible chair.

Thabiso Mabuyakhulu (22), who works with the two men, said they were from Lindelani kasi, north of Durban, and visited different busy places with their tricks.
