The family of Paulinah Sangweni (19) is still reeling in shock after she was found dead in the early hours of Monday morning.
Paulinah's body was found lying in a stormwater drain near the main road in Kwaggafontein in Mpumalanga.
Her father John Sangweni (62) said he still does not believe that his daughter is no more, and the sad news shook everyone in the family especially during this lockdown period.
He said his daughter's body was lying face up and half-naked.
"When she left home, she did not say where she was going. I was only alerted after she was murdered. I only went to the scene to identify her. When I saw her body, I felt like the world has crumbled down on me. I expected a lot from her just like any parent,” he said.
"I struggled to raise her and when she completed her matric, I was happy. Now my happiness has turned into tears. All we are waiting for as a family is justice to take its course and the culprit to be brought to book."
Her niece Thabisile Mnguni (19) said Paulinah sent her a WhatsApp text telling her that she was going to visit her boyfriend at KwaMhlanga and asked her to accompany her to the main road to board a taxi.
"There was no transport. I told her we must go back home because it was becoming late, but she said she needed to collect something from her friend. Later I called to check whether she had arrived home, but her phone was off. In the early hours of Monday, morning cops came knocking at home. They told me about a woman lying dead on the road. I then alerted the elders and we went there to check and found that it was her," she said.
Brigadier Leonard Hlathi said police found the woman half-naked and she was certified dead by paramedics at the scene.
Meanwhile at KwaMhlanga Fikile Mahlangu (32) was stabbed to death by her boyfriend at her workplace also on Monday.
It is alleged the boyfriend entered her office at a funeral parlour and produced a knife.
A colleague (36) who refused to be named told Daily Sun that he heard Fikile screaming and when he rushed to check the boyfriend stormed out running.
"I saw her lying on the floor bleeding and I called for help and the ambulance. People came and we tried to stop the bleeding and resuscitate her, but when the ambulance arrived paramedics certified her dead,” he said.
Brigadier Leonard Hlathi said investigations revealed that the woman had a protection order against the suspect.
He said both were supposed to attend court on the same day.
Hlathi urged anyone with more information to call Colonel Johannes Kgomo on 082 923 1736.
