A GOVERNMENT official in Australia has reportedly spent over $50 000 (about R730 000) of public funds on a sex worker.
According to NZ Herald, the former CEO of a regional West Australian council was recently fired after the state’s corruption watchdog revealed how he misused government funds.
In a statement report on Wednesday, 22 September, the Corruption and Crime Commission alleged that the official authorised seven payments amounting to $54 850 (about R800 000) since last March.
It was also revealed that the man had allegedly used council money to set up a scheme to pay the woman for sex under the guise of administrative and related services.
“The sole purpose of the scheme was for him to receive sexual services.
“Commission action prevented him from processing two further payments to the sex worker,” the commission said in a statement.
Following a disciplinary hearing, the official’s employment contract was terminated on 13 September.
