NSFAS students at Tshwane University of Technology recently got the surprise of their lives when the laptops they were waiting for from the student funding programme turned out to be a joke.
The TUT has set the record straight about those laptops that have been doing the rounds on social media.
TUT spokeswoman Phaphama Tshisikhawe said the university has not given any laptops to their students.
She said any laptop that will be given will be coming straight from the National Student Financial Aid Scheme.
“The university won’t have a say in what type of laptops will be given to students,” she said.
Tshisikhawe said they have noted Twitter posts poking fun at the laptops allegedly given to students by TUT.
“I can confirm that we did not give any laptops, especially those ones on Twitter,” she said.
On Tuesday afternoon, a Twitter user shared a laptop he claimed he got from TUT.
Social media had a field day, making fun of the laptops, with some comparing them to sandwich toasters and kiddies laptops.
@Rochie posted the laptop and tweeted: “Guys TUT gave students these laptops. One costs R5 200.00.”
@Omegaz said: “Barr after o submit’a assignment holla baby shark do do do do.”
@Yanga_que said: “You can check your weight and do your assignment at the same time.”
