FORMER president
Jacob Zuma will be arriving back this Saturday from Cuba where he has been
receiving medical treatment for his undisclosed illness, his supporters have
announced.
The Gauteng Radical Economic Transformation President Jacob Zuma Support Group said the former president will be landing at the OR Tambo International Airport at about 10 am his coming Saturday.
In a statement released through the MKMVA, the group urged its supporters to welcome Zuma as he lands, claiming that thousands will be gathering at the airport to welcome him.
“Together with many organizations in Gauteng and throughout South Africa, we call on our members and supporters to join in giving Msholozi a resounding welcome and to denounce the vindictive warrant of arrest that had been issued against him.
Reflecting our support for President Zuma, and outrage at the vindictive political persecution, he is subjected to, many more calls will follow for thousands of supporters to join us in warmly welcoming Msholozi back home,” it said.
The support group has been holding meetings in the past weeks to mobilize support for Msholozi since a warrant has been issued for his arrest after he failed to appear in the Pietermaritzburg High Court where he is facing multiple corruption charges arising from the arms deal.
His lawyers had argued that Zuma could not appear in court as he was ill and submitted sick note which Judge Dhaya Pillay refused to recognize citing alterations of the date on it.
This drew criticism from Zuma supporters who labeled it a travesty of justice and sparked mobilization of support of the former president.
“We believe in many voices bringing one clarion message: Maholozi is us and we are Msholozi, “ they have declared.
