Congregants are seen taking turns indulging in them while others are fed by the pastor himself.

But according to the prophet, the feeding of the cockroaches was for redemption and strength of the “Father”, who wouldn’t give them anything unclean. But this didn’t go well with other leaders.

Mahikeng Ministers Fellowship spokesman Pastor Lesiba Kgwele called on the CRL Commission to look into the matter.

He said harsh steps needed to be taken against people who used the word of God to abuse people.

Reverend Kenneth Meshoe said: “People need to stop using the Bible to make others do things that are not of God.”

People on social media were also angered by the pastor.

  • Mosa Mtimkulu said: “We can’t just stand at the corner and watch the humiliation continue.”
  • Suge Dupree said: “He’s going to kill someone. He likes to experiment with people’s health.”

But others praised Mnguni.

  • Chene Nage wrote: “We’re with you, messiah. Thank you for carrying the cross for our sake!”
  • Shingi Machingambi wrote: “Keep feeding the Lord’s sheep. I’ll listen at your feet, man of God.”

According to nutritionist Rose Aphane, cockroaches were only edible when prepared properly.

“They must be washed and thoroughly cooked prior to eating to kill any bacteria,” she said.

John Noah, the prophet’s “spiritual son”, wouldn’t comment. CRL Commission chair Luka David Mosoma urged Christian leaders to fight such practices.
