 Gauteng Province has recorded an increase of over 3000 COVID-19 positive cases in the last 24 hours.

A total number of 5576 of people are currently hospitalized in Gauteng's public and private facilities due to COVID-19.

Being the country's epicentre the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Gauteng as yesterday (Wednesday) stood at 107 070, with 40 144 recoveries and 726 deaths.

City of Johannesburg continued to be the district with the largest number of positive case sitting at 43 314.

Hotspot kasis are Doornkop, Soweto, Dobsonville, Protea Glen  currently sitting with 10 739 positive cases.

Ekurhuleni second Gauteng hotspots has 23 767 cases, taking the third spot is the Country's capital City, Tshwane with 18 269 cases, then followed by West Rand with 7121 then Sedibeng with 5839 positive cases.

Unallocated cases were sitting at 3760.

The Department said allocating Gauteng cases to respective districts was ongoing. They said after obtaining further information on contact numbers and addresses from law enforcement agencies, provincial outbreak teams and the National Institute of Communicable Disease (NICD) they we can make corrections where a case might have been incorrectly allocated to a particular district.

The Gauteng department of health said a total of 45 429 contacts traced, 27 755 people have completed the 14 days monitoring period with no symptoms reported and therefore they are de-isolated.
